Bioluminescence

Ashley Hume

The exhibition explores the transformative power of bioluminescent light in the depths of the sea. Through hyper realistic drawing techniques, each sea creature is highlighted in a suspended state, allowing audiences to experience their ethereal glow that aims to unravel the mysteries hidden within the shadows. Through examining the biodiversity of the sea and the discovery of bioluminescence the series intends to extend traditional perceptions of illumination.

About the Artist

Ashley Hume, a Visual Artist and devoted Border Collie Mumma to Arthur and Kevin, explores the entrancing beauty of bioluminescent organisms and sea creatures through intricate drawings. These creatures, with their extraordinary ability to emit radiant light, serve as nature's own virtuoso light artists, orchestrating a visual symphony of colour and enchantment amidst the darkness.

With a Bachelor of Visual Arts Education and Fine Arts experience, Hume captures not only the allure of these creatures but also the essence of pets and their human companions in her work. Through her art, she invites the audience to rediscover the mysteries of light and embrace its transformative power in the natural world. Alongside her artistic endeavours, Hume’s passion extends to supporting Paws Pet Therapy, where a portion of her sales goes to aid their mission of pet-assisted therapy. Through this, she aims to not only reveal the beauty of the world but also celebrate the joy that animals bring to our lives.
