Pool Closed

Rebecca Webb

In the realm of photography, light reigns supreme as the essence, the soul, and the heartbeat of every image. Put simply, photography is drawing with light—a foundational truth that cannot be overstated. Light transcends being a mere tool; it's a storyteller, a mood shaper, and a healer. Through Rebecca Webb’s journey as a photographer, she has grown to appreciate how light, in its myriad forms, can transform spaces and moments, offering solace and healing to both the observer and the environment.

Her ongoing photographic series, "Pool Closed," revolves around the serene and contemplative moments of swimming pools during their off-season, especially in the winter months. These spaces, typically alive with activity, laughter, and splashes of water, undergo a profound shift in winter. They become hushed, tranquil, and cocooned in silence—a quietude that draws her in and inspires her work. The interplay of light during these dormant periods is truly magical. The soft, diffused glow filtering through windows, the dance of shadows on the water's surface, and the subtle hues cast upon empty surfaces compose a visual symphony. These moments serve as an ode to the therapeutic power of quietude—a time of peace and reflection. Through Rebecca's lens, she aims to capture this profound sense of calm, inviting viewers to share in the tranquillity of "Pool Closed."
