They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the portraits featured in SCHF Art Program’s A Little Piece of Me exhibition are worth so much more for families with children living with life-limiting conditions.
This winter, the unique pixel portraits featuring patients cared for by Paediatric Palliative Care teams across Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and John Hunter Children’s Hospital return to the walls of Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Bear Cottage, and John Hunter Children’s Hospital.
Created in collaboration with artist Andrew Christie, these portraits will tell a unique story, not only of each patient’s journey, but of the things that have shaped their identity.
Stories like that of young Zoe, who has been diagnosed with a rare brain tumour called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) – the most aggressive of all childhood cancers.
“This project gives us the privilege to honour the brave, beautiful little girl Zoe is and the precious moments we shared with the wonderful people in our lives,” said Huyen, Zoe’s mum.
Made up of hundreds of tiny images, Zoe’s portrait captures her gorgeous smile, her bright eyes, her family from afar and all the incredible people in her life today.
