On Thursday 9 November, 2023, Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation held a Renovation afternoon tea in appreciation for some proactive and skilled members of our Movement of Many.
Provident Project Management (PPM) approached SCHF, wanting to support Sydney Children's Hospital on a renovation project. SCHF quickly found the perfect project to help PPM give back to sick kids and their families, by renovating the Intensive Care Unit (CICU) Parent Hostel and the Medical Imaging Department Waiting Room.
PPM reached out to their partners in the construction industry and a committed team led by PPM, Growthbuilt and many other tradies came together to renovate and renew these areas.
Lauren Kara-George, Senior Relationship Manager, Corporate Partnerships SCHF says "We are so grateful to the committed organisations and tradespeople who donated so much time, energy, resources and material to help renovate the hostel rooms and Medical Imaging Department. They have come together, as a Movement of Many, and we are so appreciative of their support.”
Caring for sick kids is a 360-degree endeavour. While most of our impact at SCHF goes towards helping sick kids, sometimes the parents require some special attention as well to ensure they can provide the support that only a mother, father or carer can.
The Parent Hostel is inside the hospital and offers parents/carers who have children in PICU a place to sleep, shower and grab a bite to eat before returning to their child in the place no parent/carer wants their child to be. These facilities offer respite while still allowing parents/carers to be close to their children. While the Parent Hostel has received donor support over the years, it required a facelift and a lot of work to ensure it could continue making parents/carers feel warm and supported while their children are in ICU.
The construction team provided and installed new flooring, built-in joinery, fresh paint, new bathrooms, new blinds, and a new dining/living area.
Meanwhile, the Medical Imaging Department at Sydney Children's Hospital was experiencing some wear and tear from high usage, with over 10,500 scans completed each year. The construction team gave the waiting room new flooring, fresh paint, and updated the kids waiting area and play area. This makeover has made the waiting area a much more inviting and friendly place to parents/carers and kids.
Luke Coobes, Nurse Unit Manager of Medical Imaging Department says, “We would like to thank the generous supporters of SCHF for the improvements they generously facilitated to the waiting area and associated rooms within our main reception. The area is now so much lighter and brighter, and the aesthetic is so much more pleasant for all our patients.
“The expanded dedicated paediatric waiting area will provide a more comfortable and welcoming space for kids and carers than that which was in place previously and we look forward to working with our colleagues within Sydney Children's Hospital to further improve that areas look and feel for the benefit of our younger patients.”
Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation was thrilled to partner with Provident Project Management,Growthbuilt and many other tradies. We are so happy that our Movement of Many is able to provide support for children and their families in their times of need.
