Uniting for a Cure: Gold Series - Perth 2024 Raises Record-Breaking Funds

13 Sep 2024

On Thursday 12 September, Perth saw a major boost in the fight against childhood cancer as the Gold Series - Perth 2024 event brought together an extraordinary group of supporters, raising a record-breaking $1,332,000.

Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation’s (SCHF) Gold Dinner is one of Australia’s most anticipated charity galas. This year, for the second time, it expanded to Perth, to make a national and international impact for kids with cancer.

Gold Series – Perth was organised in partnership with SCHF, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation (PCHF) and the Children’s Cancer Institute (CCI). It united philanthropists with a shared goal: to advance groundbreaking treatments and improve outcomes for children with cancer.

The purpose

Every year, nearly 1,000 children and adolescents in Australia are diagnosed with cancer, and every week, three children die from the disease. Despite incredible advancements in treatment, cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease among children. Gold Series - Perth 2024 was focused on addressing this issue by raising funds to support the Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre (MCCCC) and innovative projects at Perth Children’s Hospital.

Transforming paediatric cancer care

The Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre will be the first of its kind in Australia. It will combine world-class research, clinical care, and education under one roof. This facility will bring together over 900 researchers, clinicians, and support staff, all working towards a common goal: to find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for childhood cancer. By accelerating the translation of research into clinical practice, the MCCCC aims to make life-saving treatments more accessible to children across Australia and beyond.

In Perth, particular attention was given to a pioneering project led by Professor Nick Gottardo at Perth Children’s Hospital. This research focuses on developing new forms of immunotherapy, including cancer vaccines, aimed at treating acute leukaemias and brain tumours—two of the most challenging paediatric cancers. Funds raised at the event will directly support this work, with the potential to significantly improve survival rates and reduce the long-term side effects of current treatments.

A unified effort

Throughout the evening, guests learned about the harsh realities of childhood cancer and the urgent need for ongoing research and innovation. The strong sense of community and compassion in the room was on display.

We are grateful to our Gold Partner, ABC Bullion, our Generous Partner, Essential Training, and our generous prize donors Dorchester Collection, Lance East Office, ProMondo Sports, Qantas, Space Collective, and Tiffany & Co for making the evening a success. A special mention to BNT Management, our MC, Channel Seven’s Tim McMillan, and our gift-in-kind donors who played an integral role in pulling this event together.

The event wouldn’t have been possible without our Gold Series – Perth Committee, led by Bryce Sceresini, including Ania Fry, Mei Yong, and Sarita Escalante.

The $1,332,000 raised at Gold Series - Perth 2024 will support projects with both national and global impact, ensuring that research and treatments developed in Australia can benefit children worldwide.

The Gold Series - Perth 2024 is not just a fundraising event but a demonstration of the community’s commitment to tackling childhood cancer head-on.

We thank everyone who attended and contributed to this important cause. The support for Gold Series – Perth is vital in the fight against childhood cancer, and together, we can change the future for children with cancer.
