an initiative of Hyundai Motor Group Australia
Hyundai Help for Kids (HH4K) has been proud partner since 2014 and has donated over $1,171,069 in cash as well vehicles in kind and money can't buy experiences for patients and families. HH4K supports two main areas through SCHF: Epic 3D Printer Lab in Kids Research and Weekend Child Life Therapy at Bear Cottage. Their engagement goes well beyond the dollars, with their support two Foundation vehicles in kind.
Over the last 6 years, HH4K has provided significant financial support EPIC Lab at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead though SCHF.
HH4K support has been invaluable enabling EPIC Lab to not only develop research projects but to grow, learn and educate departments across the Hospital.
Over the years the funds have been allocated to a variety of areas including salary costs, the purchase of new equipment and prototyping costs for an Honours student program. HH4K have helped them to facilitate new research collaborations, a laboratory expansion, and the development of new medical devices for children.
Traditional research funding can tie the researcher to a particular stream of research. However, funding from Hyundai Help for Kids has given them the freedom to pursue areas that show the greatest potential. As a result, staff in the EPIC Lab have collaborated with multiple departments around the Hospital resulting in projects expanding and growing in their impact, while also establishing new ideas for research. These ideas may not always work, but they are able to apply these learnings to future work. All of this has led to increased research grant success and made clinical trials possible.
By continuing to give unrestricted funds including the opportunity to fund staff, Hyundai Help for Kids has helped the EPIC Lab innovate, grow and learn as well as leverage new opportunities. The EPIC Lab has continued to grow from a single focus of Bone Injury Research to collaborating with a variety of other departments around the Hospital.
At Bear Cottage, Hyundai Help for Kids have generously funded the position of weekend Child Life Therapist at Bear Cottage (Sunday and Monday). As Bear Cottage is focused on palliative care, not curative, providing psychosocial support is central to our care model. The position of Child Life Therapist is critical at Bear Cottage as our therapists work on evidence-based interventions to empower their patients and siblings through play to promote developmental, social, and emotional wellbeing.
With the help of donors like HH4K, the Bear Cottage team can go all in, to continue to care for children with life limiting conditions changing a family’s life forever.
Exhausting, rewarding, sometimes positive, often painful – Bear Cottage is a place where respite is possible.
All of this would not have been possible without the financial support of Hyundai Help for Kids. Imagine that…
