For 27 years the Le Roux family has been lighting up their house in Western Sydney with a dazzling display of over 40,000 Christmas lights. Graham and his son Garth take part in Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation's Lights for Kids, helping to raise vital funds to support the Foundation's annual Christmas Appeal.
The enchanting display takes Graham four months to set up, but Graham says, "It's all worth it." Drawing in crowds from all over Sydney, it has become a local phenomenon.
In the next suburb, Graham's son, Garth, has followed in his father's footsteps, decorating his own house. Extending the bright spectacle across the neighbourhood. "Everyone thinks we are the Griswalds" jokes Garth.
The family's commitment to the Lights for Kids campaign stems from a personal connection. Garth's oldest daighter, Roxanne, was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and type 1 diabetes, which means the family spends a lot of time at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
Once all the festivities of Christmas are over, the Le Roux family spends a month and a half packing up the display before eagerly planning next year's display. Their goal for 2023 is to add an additional 20,000 lights, taking the spectacle to even greater heights.
We are calling on our Movement of Many to join us this Christmas and help make it the brightest Christmas possible for sick kids in hospital.
Whether you are someone who enjoys decorating their house, or perhaps you enjoy exploring your neighbourhood to look at all the spectacular light displays, it's easy for anyone to get involved in Lights for Kids.
