Helen and John Robertson are a couple that are passionate about kid’s cancer research. They began their philanthropic journey by opening up their magnificent garden to the public for a gold coin donation. After seeing the generosity of their community, they decided to dedicate their time to create the non-profit Children’s Cancer Foundation Boutique Op Shop and Warehouse, in Katoomba in support of the Steven Walters Children’s Cancer Foundation (SWCCF).
SWCCF was founded to commemorate the wishes of Steven Walter who died in 2000 at just 19-years-old after an eight-year battle against cancer. After years of funding children’s cancer research, Sue Walters, the CEO of the foundation decided to close the charity. Now, Helen and John continue their efforts to help sick kids by generously donation 100% of their proceeds to Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF).
The team from SCHF recently accepted a gracious invitation from Helen and John to make the trip to Katoomba to visit their shop. Inside we were greeted with countless wares – full of colour and history – including refurbished antiques and furniture, beautiful clothes and all things vintage.
The shop has become a family heirloom, with Helen and John’s son, Pete, now at the helm. Pete, supported by a small team consisting mostly of dedicated volunteers, continues his parent’s legacy by raising vital funds for cancer research programs across Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network to help even more kids that are facing the difficulties of a cancer diagnosis.
SCHF is honoured to have received a generous gift of $90,000, dedicated to Professor Glen Marshal in support of his tireless efforts and research towards finding a cure for children’s cancer.
Thank you, Helen, John, Pete and all the staff and customers at the Children’s Cancer Foundation Boutique Op Shop and Warehouse for your unwavering support and unparalleled dedication to the health and wellbeing of sick kids. We are so excited to have you in our Movement of Many!
Next time you are in Katoomba be sure to visit our friends at 150 Bathurst Road & 58 Megalong Street, Katoomba, NSW for all things eclectic, rustic and retro-vintage.
