We're raising funds for the Children's Intensive Care Unit

The Children's Intensive Care Unit (CICU) provides specialised critical care and services to critically ill children. Doctors, nurses and a range of other health care specialists work together to achieve the best outcomes for patients and a range of support services are also available for families.

How we help children in the Children's intensive care unit

The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network Children's Intensive Care Services provide the majority of Paediatric Intensive Care services in NSW and, combined, form the largest paediatric critical care service in Australasia.

The Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH) CICU provides intensive care support to a range of subspecialities such as neonates undergoing surgical procedures, airway reconstructive surgery, neurosurgery, Level 1 Trauma Service, post-operative renal transplantation, oncology and spinal. 

The team in the Children's Intensive Care Unit (CICU) care for more than 1,000 critically ill and injured children every year.

Children in the CICU often require respiratory support with ventilators, and may also need a variety of other therapies including high dose pain relief, circulatory support (ECMO), kidney dialysis, and specialised monitoring.

Due to the severity of their illness or injury, children in the CICU receive a much higher level of nursing and medical care. This ensures that any change in a child’s condition is monitored and treated quickly. 

The CICU provides:

- Comprehensive level 6 children's intensive care

- Clinical care for very sick infants and children

- Consultative service
