Reborn celebrates Antonio Harmer 3rd July 2024.

Tomorrow 3/7 we celebrate the life of Antonio Harmer, Dylan and Emily’s beautiful Son. We will be donating all coffee payments to Bear Cottage in memory of Antonio. (If you don’t drink coffee or tea, you are welcome to donate at reception also) 

A little bit about Antonio Ivan Harmer, born April 3rd, 2019, was a brave and loving boy who faced a rare blood disorder (HLH) at 7 weeks old, followed by a stroke at 10 months old and a diagnosis of AML at 14 months old. Despite enduring multiple rounds of chemotherapy, two bone marrow transplants, and various treatments, he remained remarkably happy and courageous. Antonio passed away, joining the stars on July 3rd, 2022, after a valiant battle with Leukaemia. Throughout his three years, spent largely in hospitals, he touched our hearts with his bravery, sweetness, and his enduring spirit as our true hero.

Antonio is not defined by his leukaemia or his disability; He’s defined by his spirit and his beautiful, happy energy, and that is how he will always be remembered.

A little bit about Bear Cottage from the Harmer’s. 

Bear cottage, 

When times were rough, we had bear cottage to lean on. 

Antonio fought his battle with cancer for 2 years. When time was nearing for Antonio, we spent our final 3 weeks at bear cottage in Manly, as well as respite previously before. The support that we received and continue to receive is impeccable, they understood that our time there was important and needed to be memorable. The nurses were gentle and caring and always kept our boy and family happy and comfortable. 

We felt safe in a home that wasn’t our home but made it feel like ours. 

They offered respite, they helped create memories, they offered financial help and even after our boy joining the stars, they offer camps and gatherings for continued support.

Being a children’s hospital/palliative care home, the nurses and other employees were so friendly and inviting which is what our and many families needs in a time of heartache. 

Manly has become our home away from home because of bear cottage.
