Happy in my Habitat
Mellissa Read-Devine
“Habitat” means natural home or environment. It can also mean a person’s usual or preferred surroundings.
My paintings generally portray birds and animals in their natural environment. I love to wander through the wild places in Australia and am delighted to catch a glimpse of any animals that might reside there.
As I also like to spend my time at home, (my preferred habitat); the local creatures I see there tend to be of a more domestic nature.
My love of painting the landscape and its inhabitants is apparent in these bright and joyful works. Both wild and domestic, I want the viewer to see all these creatures, happy in their spaces, and perhaps think of what they might be up to in their day to day lives.
