Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation is proud to announce the first philanthropic leadership gift of $5 million dollars from the Medich Foundation, in support of the Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre (M4C) to open in 2025.

The Centre will be the first of its kind in Australia: a fully integrated cancer centre, combining world-leading clinical care with ground-breaking research and education all under the one roof. This will ultimately achieve the collective vision of the Kids Cancer Centre and Children’s Cancer Institute - to put an end to childhood cancer.

Roy Medich OAM, of the Medich Foundation, is pleased to announce a further $1 million dollar pledge totalling his family’s major philanthropic donation of $6 million dollars to the centre. This generous gift was announced alongside a commitment of $20 million by the Minderoo Foundation announced on April 12 by the Hon. Greg Hunt MP.

The M4C will provide the best translational research and care for some of the sickest children in Australia and raise the bar for kids’ cancer worldwide.

Roy says, “The Medich Foundation is a proud supporter of the M4C and the alliance with the Minderoo Foundation. We hope that with our lead gift it will encourage other philanthropists to be part of this major once-in-a-generation investment providing the best care and hope to some of the sickest children.”

The Medich Foundation has a long history supporting Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation, and through this partnership, has contributed significantly over the past five years to cancer research, diagnostics and therapies to help treat and one day, cure cancer.

In 2018, the Medich Foundation donated the single largest gift of $1 million dollars to the ZERO Childhood Cancer Program, contributing as a leadership donor for the program.

Nicola Stokes, CEO of Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation said, “The collaboration and commitment from both State and Federal Government and philanthropic leaders such as the Medich Foundation, will transform the way some of the sickest children – not only in our State, but around the world – are cared for.”

“It is only through this type of investment that we will see more breakthroughs and milestones, turning points and world firsts. Childhood is brief, the window of opportunity is short, but together we can ensure all children with cancer have the opportunity to follow their passions, achieve their ambitions and reach their greatest potential.”

Professor Tracey O’Brien, Director of Kids Cancer Centre said, “caring for kids with rare cancers, requires pushing the boundaries of science, safe use of cutting-edge therapies in hospital and strong collaboration across differing specialities with hospitals and local communities.”

“The ability to deliver integrated, specialist cancer treatment, education and research to transform the lives of children with cancer in a purpose-built centre will help us achieve the best possible outcomes for patients and their families.”
