There was no mountain (or hill) high enough to stop Team Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) from going all in for kids’ health at City2Surf, raising a record-breaking $670,000 and counting.

With one foot on the start line and one in the future of kids’ health, almost 1500 unstoppable changemakers ran, jogged and wheeled 14kms from Hyde Park to Bondi Beach to raise vital funds for sick kids in the care of Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN)

This year, Team SCHF was hard to miss from the very start. Eight-year-old Braxton gun-started this year’s charity wave in honour of his big brother, Harley who lost his fight to congenital heart disease when he was only 16 months old. Ever since, his family have donned their 'Team Harley’ outfits at City2Surf to raise vital funds in his memory.

Team Harley are one of 110 teams who ran for SCHF, each with their own stories and connections to the important work SCHF does to support sick kids in the care of SCHN.

Joining Braxton was 19 Fire & Rescue NSW firefighters, including Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell, who ran the course for SCHF in full gear. Their journey up Heartbreak Hill was no easy feat, with each firefighter wearing boots, a breathing apparatus and structural helmet, weighing a total of 20kgs.

Kate Ferguson, Chief Marketing Officer at SCHF says, “We are so grateful and proud of Team SCHF for making this year’s City2Surf count for sick kids. Not only have we exceeded our initial target and broke our fundraising record, but we've retained our title as the event’s leading charity.

Funds raised will help SCHN continue to provide extraordinary care to sick kids, now and into the future. Whether it’s used for world-class clinical care, positive patient experiences or groundbreaking research, Team SCHF's fundraising efforts during a cost-of-living crisis are unbelievable and will go a long way in helping ensure sick kids have access to the best possible care, no matter where and no matter what.''

Volunteers at City2Surf 2024

As one of the largest and most trusted kids’ health charities in the country, SCHF raises funds to help provide all children with access to the best possible healthcare, whenever and wherever they need it. Our Movement of Many’s fundraising efforts at City2Surf will help support approximately 159,000 children and their families across SCHN over the next year.

To all of our fundraisers and volunteers who joined Team SCHF for the biggest and best City2Surf yet, thank you. Your unwavering support will help bring discoveries closer, develop treatments faster and build state-of-the-art facilities sooner - all to help change and save the lives of sick kids.

Also, a special thanks to Fire & Rescue NSW for achieving the unthinkable, to Epoch Capital and Pherrus Financial for dollar-matching donations and our gift-in-kind partners.
