Join Us in Supporting Perinatal Palliative Care at Bear Cottage:
80km Relay Race.
We are Nicole, Tony, Hayley and Philna, and we all work at Bear Cottage. We are excited to share that this October, we are taking on the 80km Bondi to Manly Ultra relay race to support Bear Cottage and its vital work in perinatal palliative care.
Bear Cottage is the only dedicated paediatric hospice in NSW, providing compassionate respite and end-of-life care for children and babies. This year, Bear Cottage is expanding its services to include a crucial perinatal palliative care program. This program supports families experiencing still birth and those who learn during their pregnancy or shortly after birth that their baby has a life-limiting condition.
As prenatal testing continues to advance, more families are finding themselves in this challenging situation, often having to make difficult decisions before their babies are even born.
Our goal is to empower these families, helping them embrace the life of their baby both before and after birth.
Bear Cottage aims to provide families with the opportunity to know and honour their baby. We do this by offering families access to Bear Cottage after the birth of their baby, providing space and support to spend time together as a family with their newborn in a home like environment. This service is available to families who are following a compassionate care approach for their newborn or who sadly have babies who are stillborn. The time spent at Bear Cottage will allow parents the chance to make memories with their baby and parent their child despite limited time together.
We are committed to raising funds for this initiative because we believe that every family deserves to enjoy cherished moments with their baby, no matter how brief their time together may be.
