Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation’s (SCHF) Gold Dinner 2023 presented by Scape raised funds for The Kookaburra Centre at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The centre will be the first Complex Care Centre of its kind in Australia, caring for children with complex conditions and is expected to open in 2025.

Over a quarter ($5 million) of the record-breaking $19.2 million raised on the night was thanks to the incredibly generous support of Hancock Prospecting Group’s Executive Chair, Mrs Gina Rinehart, and daughter Ginia on behalf of Hancock Prospecting.

The donation of five million dollars, on behalf of Hancock Prospecting, broke the record of corporate and personal philanthropy in the history of Gold Dinner. Thanks to this incredibly generous support, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation can help transform paediatric care for the most medically complex children in Australia and beyond.

Colin Allen, General Manager of Philanthropy for Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation, explained, “Gold Dinner 2023 was an incredible record-breaking night in more ways than one. The success of the night is in large part thanks to the incredibly generous large gifts given by people like Gina Rinehart and the Sydney philanthropic community.

“At SCHF we dream of being able to provide all children with access to the best possible healthcare, whenever and wherever they need it. The Kookaburra Centre was one of those dreams with a vision to revolutionise complex paediatric care in Australia and beyond. It was an idea that deserved to be fully realised but needed philanthropic support to come to life.

Thank you to Mrs Gina Rinehart and Hancock Prospecting for helping make this possible.”

Combining a multidisciplinary model of care with state-of-the-art infrastructure, The Kookaburra Centre will be able to provide a truly innovative healthcare experience for children with complex conditions and their families.

Colin Allen says, “It is a sad reality that children with complex, rare medical conditions need life-long comprehensive care and intensive support to simply get through daily life. Whether these kids stay a short time or a long time, the funds raised from Gold Dinner 2023 will create an impact that will last a lifetime.”
